Partnership Proposals Include New Visitor Center at King Gillette Ranch

SMMNRA may benefit from six proposals for Centennial Challenge funding in fiscal year 2008. These projects are among 201 proposals which were announced on August 23 in Yosemite National Park by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and Park Service Director Mary Bomar, as the first phase of the park service's Centennial Challenge. For SMMNRA, the public-private partnerships will raise money for recreational experience, education and stewardship.

Details of the six SMMNRA projects are as follows:

Establish Gateway Interagency Visitor Center at New Gillette Ranch Property ($8,447,690)
Partner: Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority
Stewardship Experience for Urban Youth Through Watershed Restoration Activity ($173,398)
Partner: State Coastal Conservancy
Outdoor Education Programs for 10,000 Urban Youth ($53,000)
Partner: Los Angeles Unified School District
Restore Steelhead Trout Habitat in Solstice Canyon ($137,366)
Partner: California Coastal Conservancy
Conserve Mountain Lions in the Santa Monica Mountains ($150,000)
Partner: Santa Monica Mountains Fund
Deadly Urban Impacts: Understand and Reduce the Poisoning of Wildlife in Parks ($60,000)
Partner: Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy
